Who We Are:

1st State Academy is a Non-Profit, Non-Stock, Dover based cosmetology and barbering school, that specializes in providing hands-on training in preparing students for a successful career in the cosmetology, barbering and nail technician professions. Training is also provided for those individuals desiring to be instructors in each of these professions. 1st State Academy offers students another choice in adult education by providing hands-on training in all aspects of cosmetology, barbering and nail technician theory that will enable students to ultimately own and operate their own business.

1st State Academy is one of the leading providers of cosmetology and barbering education in the State of Delaware, initially operating in the Kent County area and rapidly expanding throughout the State and beyond. The emphasis is on providing service based on having knowledgeable instructors and having students experience hands-on training, theory and business management. We endeavor to prepare the students with the entrepreneurial skills to become competent business owners.

SCHOOL HOURS

Full-time students – Monday through Friday 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Part-time Students – Monday through Friday; schedule as approved by the Instructor

(NOTE: Part time students must attend a minimum of 4 hours Monday through Friday)

OFFICIAL SCHOOL HOLIDAYS

The School will be closed on the following days:

Martin Luther King, Jr. Day                                                              Labor Day
Good Friday                                                                       Thanksgiving
Memorial Day                                                                          Christmas Break                                                                        Independence Day

The School may be closed on additional days as determined by Management. The School may also be closed due to inclement weather. Students shall obtain closure information from specific radio and televisions stations. If they are unable to obtain the status through this method they shall use the emergency number provided.
